Good Reasons To Be Playing Computer Games

Feb. 6th 2012

Millions of people around the world enjoy video games-for the adrenaline rush, the friendship, the competition , and the opportunity to become a conquering daredevil, at least in a virtual world.

But in addition to being fun, can playing these games really promote self improvement? Hang on to your controllers: some researchers and social critics are now arguing that computer gaming has its virtues. It can speed reflexes, improve mental abilities and even reduce violence. While no one is arguing for a 24-hour diet of computer games, many observers now see some concealed values.

Consider research done at the University of Rochester in New York, which concluded that teens who frequently played computer games can improve their video attention. In one experiment, for instance, test subjects were asked to quickly work out whether or not a certain shape-a square or a diamond-appeared within one of the 6 rings. Computer gamers came out on top. The researchers claimed that computer games force players to simultaneously juggle a variety tasks, such as identifying and tracking enemies, and avoiding getting hurt. Those game-playing abilities can transliterate into more general visible talents that apply to everyday life.

We often think about popular culture as a passive recreation, but there’s nothing passive about video games-they are the most interactive, demanding entertainment medium ever made.

Simulation games, where players design everything from roller coasters to towns, can get youngsters enthusiastic about mechanical engineering and urban planning. Wrote author Steven Johnson: “My nephew would be asleep in five seconds if you popped him down in an urban studies classroom, but somehow an hour of playing ‘Sim City ‘ taught him that high taxation levels in industrial areas can suppress development.”

Johnson, the author of “Everything Bad Is Good For You: How Today’s Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter,” has turned into a outstanding defender of computer games. He has also entered the controversy over whether video games promote aggression, arguing that crime among teens and adolescents has dropped by almost two-thirds since 1975. Whether computer games can take credit is a case of strong debate, but Johnson implies that computer console games may act as a safety valve.

Computer console games may have healing value. Mark Griffiths, a lecturer at Nottingham Trent School in Britain, disagrees that computer console games can help distract children undergoing chemo and treatment for sickle cell anemia. The games could also work as physical treatment for arm injuries. Many people spend many relaxing hours playing some of the best PC flight simulator games.

I love computer games, especially flight simulations. Check out this flight simulator demo and these free flight simulator games.

Best Super Nintendo Games Ever

Jan. 25th 2012

Super Nintendo games are awesome, they make anyone feel great they played SNES games. For instance, Mario World. You cannot wait for the story to finish and you go through hoops and tunnels just to do it. It didn’t matter that the graphics did not include noses on the human characters. Mario and Luigi always looked awesome no matter what they did. The game play was simple yet complex, for adults and kids alike. More importantly, it spurred the imagination.

Nintendo fans of old still know these games. In fact, this console is again rising in popularity as the kids who were pioneers of the SNES games in the past are now parents themselves~Those who may have played these games in the past are now teaching their kids how to play Super Nintendo games~Super Nintendo games are games you would gladly teach your kids}. So many of us fans of Super Nintendo games are still hooked.

Super Nintendo games of Note

Secret of Mana (Square)

Although greeted with mixed reviews, Secret of Mana (SoM) has always claimed a place in my heart. The graphics are notable for a SNES game. The real time battle style was like the legend of zelda and they can be avoided. If you want to try something other than the random battles in Final Fantasy, SOM is a good respite. The party mode setting will entertain you and your friends for a long time.

The game play was a classic. The NPCs in the game were unique and had great personalities so you won’t forget them anytime soon.

Castlevania IV

One of the most gorgeous 2D platform action games ever to be created. The new functions in gaming during that time were first used in Castlevania. My favorite gaming moment in Castlevania was allowing a Belmont to use the whip as a shield. Great graphics, Stellar soundtrack, awesome controls and timeless game play are the things that describe castlevania IV best.

Let’s play some of these classics today. Get your super nintendo console and play the games at your sleeper sofa today.
